CVICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Associate degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in South Carolina
- At least 2 years of recent CVICU or cardiovascular intensive care nursing experience required
- At least 1 year of recent experience using the Epic electronic medical record system
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Demonstrated experience caring for critically ill cardiac, cardiothoracic, and vascular patients
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and provide every-other-weekend coverage
- Annual compliance requirements and pre-assignment education must be completed as scheduled
- Seasonal influenza vaccination required
CVICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based critical care nursing to critically ill adult patients in the CVICU
- Care for post-sternotomy patients following CABG, valve repair or replacement, aortic dissection procedures, and other cardiothoracic surgeries
- Provide care for patients following carotid endarterectomy, lobectomy, mediastinoscopy, cardiac catheterization, and vascular procedures
- Monitor and manage ventilated patients, respiratory failure, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and continuous IV sedation
- Manage arterial lines, central lines, CVP monitoring, pulmonary artery catheters, epicardial pacing wires, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
- Titrate cardiac, vasoactive, insulin, and other critical care infusions according to protocols
- Provide care for patients receiving ECMO, CRRT/CVVHD, IABP, Impella, VAD, and other advanced life-support therapies
- Interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias, obtain 12-lead ECGs, and respond to changes in patient condition
- Administer blood products, manage chest tubes, assist with procedures, and maintain infection-prevention standards
- Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, IV teams, rapid response, rehabilitation, radiology, and other interdisciplinary services
- Float to other qualified units or locations when requested and perform only duties supported by documented competencies
