Description
The CT Technologist is responsible for providing diagnostic imaging services to patients using various imaging modalities, with a focus on ensuring accurate image acquisition, patient safety, and optimal patient care. The role emphasizes patient education by clearly explaining procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure patient understanding and cooperation.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Position-Specific Responsibilities
- Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners, power injectors, and related equipment, adhering to radiation safety procedures.
- Position patients for CT scans using appropriate positioning devices and protective equipment as needed.
- Conduct exams based on Imaging Department Protocols or in collaboration with the Radiologist.
- Assist the Radiologist with routine and interventional CT procedures.
- Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, organize processed images in the correct sequence, and label them appropriately.
- Transmit images to the Image Archival System.
- Dispense and/or order oral contrast for patients undergoing CT scans.
- Demonstrate proficiency in IV placement for contrast administration.
- Show advanced knowledge in radiographic procedures, including but not limited to X-ray and Fluoroscopy, as well as C-arm and OR work.
- Adhere to ALARA standards in radiation safety practices.
- Consistently operate equipment according to manufacturers' recommendations.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and coordinate with service engineers for maintenance when necessary.
- Maintain accurate patient records in Electronic Health Records (EHR), including documentation of procedures and supply charges.
- Perform clerical duties, manage supply inventory, and assist with patient transportation when required.
- Exhibit flexibility by assisting in other modalities, adjusting schedules, and covering shifts as needed.
- Participate in additional training or certification processes as required.
- Assist and train team members as directed.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver's license).
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a background check is required.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
- Complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program - Required.
- ARRT registration in Radiology (R) and Computed Tomography (CT) - Required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire - Required.
- Preferred: Two years of prior experience as a practicing CT Technologist.
- Preferred: Cross-trained into other modalities, including MRI, DEXA, and Mammography.
- Preferred: Experience with electronic records, including PACS and RIS/HIS.
