Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required. Must-Have: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques. They produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assist with interventional and therapeutic procedures. Essential functions include performing complex CT procedures. They use professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical histories for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned into the relevant system. They prepare, screen, and review the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family members. They identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. They review the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam and communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician for additional clinical information or a new prescription if needed. They are responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols. They verify insurance authorized exam scripts and send exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. They obtain outside studies and schedule them accordingly to ensure availability for Radiologists. They provide exam copies to the patient and requesting physician or family member. They evaluate radiographs using the relevant system to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value. They gather relevant information from medical records and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. They determine whether patients have been appropriately prepared for procedures and prep patients for scanning. They determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. They provide accurate explanations and instructions at appropriate times and at a level the patient can understand. They address and document patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. They perform venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. They monitor the patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure. They adhere to the policy of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality. They lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day. They identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs. They communicate with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at a level appropriate for their understanding. They adhere to the standards identified in the organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body is essential. Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware is required. Familiarity with the relevant system is necessary. They must maintain CEU credits. Team members are required to achieve certification within twelve months following hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification must be obtained within three months of hire. Six months of CT experience is preferred. Knowledge of any system added by the facility is an advantage.
