Description

American Traveler is hiring a Whole House Float RN (ICU/PCU/MS) with 2+ years of ICU experience and a VA or Compact RN license for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level I Trauma Center.

Details

  • Whole House Float role covering ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical units
  • Night shift, 3x12s, 6:45pm-7:15am
  • Floats between units, with staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours (may float 2-3 times per shift)
  • Patient ratios: ICU 2:1, PCU 5:1, MS 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active VA or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates from non-compact single-state license states)
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CPI certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, ideally from a large Level I or II trauma facility
  • Comfortable working across ICU, PCU, and MS units with ratios of at least 1:5
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line, central line, and arterial line management
  • Experience with blood product administration, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and emergency medication administration
  • Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Work within a Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric) at a 703-bed Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital
  • Affiliated with a regional School of Medicine and certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted; radius rules apply for pay rate eligibility based on distance from facility
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a break of at least one year before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who complete a full year on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period
  • All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with application
