Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) for a 13-week travel nursing contract in
Grants, New Mexico. This is an excellent opportunity for an OR nurse seeking competitive weekly compensation, professional growth, and the chance to experience the unique culture, scenery, and outdoor recreation of western New Mexico.
Candidates with
Operating Room and/or PACU experience are encouraged to apply. PACU experience is a plus, and qualified candidates who have a strong perioperative or acute-care background may be considered for
PACU training if needed.
Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse Job Description- Provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative process.
- Prepare operating rooms for scheduled surgical procedures and ensure appropriate equipment, instruments, supplies, and medications are available.
- Assist with patient positioning, surgical site preparation, and implementation of infection-control protocols.
- Serve as a circulating nurse during surgical procedures and collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the perioperative team.
- Complete preoperative assessments and verify patient information, surgical procedures, consents, allergies, and other required documentation.
- Monitor patients throughout surgical procedures and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment in accordance with facility policies and professional standards.
- Assist with surgical counts, specimen handling, documentation, and other operating room responsibilities.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered while maintaining strict medication-safety practices.
- Provide postoperative care and assist with patient transition to PACU or other appropriate care areas.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, anesthesia personnel, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Accurately document patient care, procedures, assessments, and interventions.
- Follow hospital policies, infection-prevention standards, patient-safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism while adapting to a new facility and travel assignment.
Education and Certification Requirements- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in New Mexico.
- Current BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification preferred or required according to facility and unit requirements.
- Previous Operating Room, perioperative, surgical services, or comparable acute-care nursing experience preferred.
- Additional perioperative certifications such as CNOR are a plus.
- Completion of required facility credentialing, compliance, background, and health requirements.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
Travel OR RN Qualifications- Experience working in an Operating Room or perioperative environment.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, infection prevention, and patient safety.
- Ability to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team.
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to recognize changes in patient condition.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new hospital policies, procedures, equipment, and workflows.
- Dependable, professional, and committed to providing exceptional patient care.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with the surgical and anesthesia teams.
