Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Job Responsibilities
- Provide occupational therapy treatments under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist
- Implement individualized treatment plans designed to improve patient independence and functional performance
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)
- Facilitate therapeutic exercises and activities to improve strength, coordination, balance, cognition, and mobility
- Monitor patient progress and communicate treatment outcomes to the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding therapy goals, adaptive equipment, and home exercise programs
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes
- Promote patient safety and quality care throughout the rehabilitation process
Education & Certification Requirements
- Associate Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential
- Current Montana Occupational Therapy Assistant License or eligibility to obtain licensure prior to start date
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and patient care skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Experience Requirements
- Previous Occupational Therapy Assistant experience preferred
- Experience in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), Long-Term Care (LTC), and small rural healthcare facilities is a significant plus
- Experience working with geriatric, orthopedic, neurological, and post-surgical patient populations preferred
- Previous rehabilitation or post-acute care experience highly desirable
