ICU Registered Nurse – Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • 5+ years of ICU experience with 3+ years of Charge/Lead RN experience.
  • Proven experience with inpatient dialysis and management of acutely and critically ill patients.
  • Responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Serve as Charge Nurse/Team Leader, providing leadership, guidance, training, and support to nursing and ancillary staff.
  • Experience with staff scheduling, orientation, and precepting new employees.
  • Maintain strong critical care competencies, including cardiac monitoring, ventilators, arterial lines, CVP monitoring, and other specialized equipment.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to emergency and crisis situations, including Code Blue and Rapid Response events.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders and established protocols, including medication/narcotic safety practices.
  • Maintain Joint Commission readiness, including infection prevention, patient safety, medication safety, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain individualized patient care plans and ensure timely and accurate EHR documentation.
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention, PPE use, patient safety, and quality of care.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes.
  • Delegate and supervise nursing and ancillary staff in accordance with applicable licensure and standards of practice.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to department policies, procedures, and quality initiatives.
  • Provide patient and family education while maintaining privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and compassionate care.
  • Maintain competency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and participation in nursing committees.
  • Adapt to changing clinical needs, including floating to other care areas when required.
  • Minimum Education: Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN strongly preferred.
  • Certifications: CCRN required; TNCC recommended.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS from the American Heart Association required; NRP required within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid unrestricted Arizona RN license or compact-state RN license required.
  • Must successfully complete background investigation and Employee Health requirements.
