Registered Nurse (RN) - Cath Lab
Job Description
This position involves providing care for patients before, during, and after angiography and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, as well as other diagnostic testing. Responsibilities include pre-procedure assessments, pre-medication, documentation during the catheterization process, post-cath care, and patient education. The role requires scrubbing in for procedures and assisting other team members in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care (35%): Deliver comprehensive nursing care to cardiovascular patients undergoing catheterization and angiography. Conduct various cardiac diagnostic nursing procedures per department protocols, including stress echocardiograms, routine treadmill exams, nuclear and pharmacologic stress testing, and transesophageal echocardiograms. Monitor patients during sedation and document care appropriately. Assist with interventional radiology procedures and provide evaluation for patient safety.
- Equipment Management (35%): Operate and manage various medical equipment and supplies, including cardiac output monitors, hemodynamic monitors, pacemakers/ICDs, intraaortic balloon pumps, IV pumps, defibrillators, and point-of-care testing devices.
- Scrub Role (15%): Participate as a scrub nurse during procedures, collaborating with physicians and the surgical team.
- Documentation and Education (15%): Record all pertinent information accurately on data sheets. Develop, review, and enhance educational materials and programs related to cardiovascular care.
Qualifications
- Cath Lab RN experience is required.
- Experience with Maclab (hemodynamics) is required.
- Basic knowledge of interventional radiology and vascular procedures is required.
- Experience with Impella devices is required.
- Knowledge of and operation experience with intraaortic balloon pumps is required.
- Travel work experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with Epic EMR is required.
- Active Michigan nursing license is required.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
- Current American Heart Association ACLS certification is required.
