Registered Nurse (RN) - Cath Lab

This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing angiography, interventional, and cardiac catheterization procedures, as well as other diagnostic evaluations. The role includes pre-procedure assessment, pre-medication, documentation of the catheterization process, post-cath care, and patient education. The nurse will scrub in for procedures and collaborate with other members of the catheterization laboratory team.

Responsibilities

• Nursing Care:
  • Deliver nursing care to catheterization and angiography cardiovascular patients.
  • Conduct cardiac diagnostic nursing procedures following departmental protocols.
  • Assist in various tests, including stress echocardiograms, routine treadmill exams, nuclear and pharmacologic stress testing, tilt table procedures, and transesophageal echocardiograms.
  • Provide assistance with preparation, procedure, and recovery for interventional radiology procedures.
  • Evaluate and screen patients for safety before testing.
  • Monitor sedation levels in compliance with hospital policies and document findings accurately.
  • Apply Holter monitors, Event monitors, and ambulatory blood pressure monitors; perform pacemaker interrogations, and insert PICC lines as a vascular access expert.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.
• Equipment Operation:
  • Manage supplies and operate essential equipment such as cardiac output monitoring devices, hemodynamic systems, pacemakers/ICDs, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and crash carts.
  • Utilize IV pumps, defibrillators, point-of-care blood sugar testing devices, and stress testing machines.
• Collaboration:
  • Scrub in for procedures alongside the physician.
  • Accurately record all relevant information on data sheets.
  • Develop, review, and enhance cardiovascular education materials and programs.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Cath Lab setting.
• Proficiency with Maclab hemodynamics.
• Basic knowledge of interventional radiology and vascular procedures.
• Experience with Impella devices.
• Understanding and operational knowledge of intra-aortic balloon pumps.
• Familiarity with Epic EMR.
• Current active Michigan State nursing license.
• American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
