Position Overview

This position involves working four 10-hour shifts per week, from 0630 to 1700, including weekday and weekend on-call responsibilities.

Location: Olympia, WA

Facility Type: 107 beds, non-trauma designated.

Department Details

• Rooms: 1 Cath Lab, 1 Interventional Radiology (IR) room, 1 Hybrid room.
• Cases per day: Ranges from 7 to 14 cases.

Patient Types & Common Diagnoses

• Cath Lab (required experience): Left Heart Catheterization (LHC), Right Heart Catheterization (RHC), diagnostic and interventional procedures, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABPs), Rotablator, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarctions (STEMIs), pacemakers, and Chronic Total Occlusions (CTOs). Impella experience is preferred.
• IR Procedures (experience preferred, can be taught): Coil embolization, nephrostomy tubes, central lines, ports, G/GJ tube insertions, IVC filters, and clot retrieval devices like Inari and Penumbra.
• Hybrid Procedures (experience preferred, can be taught): Aortic Aneurysm Grafts and peripheral/abdominal runoffs.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field. Travelers must have Cath Lab experience; combined Cath Lab and IR experience is preferred.
• Active RN: BLS, ACLS certifications.
• Active RT: BLS, ACLS, ARRT or RCIS certification, and State License.

Skills Required

• For RN: Must be able to read and interpret EKGs, circulate cases, sedate patients, and transport when necessary. Monitoring is optional unless there are no ICU RNs available to manage IABPs, at which point the Cath Lab RN will accompany the patient.
• For RT: Experience with scrubbing and pan simultaneously, and familiarity with the Manifold is preferred.

Support within the Department

• No transporters available; scheduling of cases is handled by a dedicated scheduler.
• Staff includes charge nurses or lead techs, phlebotomy service, and 24/7 availability of RTs and hospitalists.
• Cardiologists and IR specialists are on-site during the day and available for consultation at night.
• Intensivists are present during the day and available on call at night.

Orientation and Training

• New hires will undergo MHS NEO orientation.
• Travelers without IR experience will receive 2 weeks of orientation, while those with IR experience will receive a week. All travelers will take buddy call during orientation.
• RN candidates are required to complete the MHS Tele test prior to starting work.

Scheduling Information

• Weekend shifts involve call only with 1-2 on-call shifts during the week and 1 weekend call period per month.
• Response time for on-call shifts is 30 minutes.
• All staff work 10-hour shifts, and self-scheduling is allowed with minor adjustments for coverage.
