Description

American Traveler is hiring a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a fast-paced primary cardiac and stroke unit requiring 2 years of cardiac tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
  • Patient population includes pre/post pacemaker and ICD implantation, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, uncomplicated peripheral vascular/cardiac interventions, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
  • Manages multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration capability
  • High patient turnover of approximately 78-90 patients per week
  • Target ratio of 1:5-6 with potential surge to 6 patients
  • Unit includes a COVID-designated high-acuity side utilizing Opti-flow and BiPAP for chronic use only
  • Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling
  • Float requirement to other units as needed
  • On-call requirement with frequency depending on patient census
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period
  • Uses Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication
  • 36-hour unit orientation with mandatory attendance all of week one

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required (PCU experience alone not accepted)
  • EKG testing must be passed prior to start
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, central and peripheral line care, cardiac drip management and titration, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, use of rapid response/code teams, oxygen administration, and pre/post cardiac cath and cardiac surgery care
  • Blood product administration and insulin drip titration skills preferred
  • Wound care/wound vac experience preferred
  • Two supervisor references from within the past 2 years preferred at submission (pending references accepted)

Additional Information

  • Provide bedside care for stable pre/post cardiac procedure patients and monitor for dysrhythmias and cardiac emergencies
  • Collaborate with a team lead who assists with admissions and discharges to manage high patient turnover
  • Scrub requirements include navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, plus approved facility t-shirts; matching non-fleece jackets allowed; no crocs with holes
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility must choose between travel or per diem status
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units, have separate transportation, and are comfortable with different schedules
  • First-time travelers considered if they have the required 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience
