Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Cardiac Telemetry unit requiring 2+ years of cardiac tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
  • Patient population includes pre/post pacemaker and ICD implantation, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular/cardiac procedures, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
  • Manages multiple cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration required
  • Target patient ratio of 1:5-6, with surge capacity up to 6 patients
  • High patient turnover with approximately 78-90 patients per week on the unit
  • Unit has a dedicated team lead to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Uses telemetry monitoring, pulse ox, high flow O2, non-rebreather masks (palliative only), and BIPAP (chronic use only)
  • Charting and communication systems include Pyxis, EPIC (Dimensions), and SBAR
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • On-call requirement with frequency based on patient census
  • Self-scheduling available with leadership oversight; no block scheduling
  • 36-hour work weeks may be offered
  • Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks available

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, license pending status accepted at time of application
  • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, peripheral line care, cardiac drip management, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response/code teams
  • Experience with heparin protocols and cardiac monitoring required
  • Central line care and blood product administration skills preferred
  • Previous PERM/PRN/EP employment with Novant Health or New Hanover requires a 12-month waiting period before eligibility

Additional Information

  • Provide stable pre- and post-procedure care for cardiac and stroke patients, including monitoring and management of cardiac drips
  • Unit may house COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BIPAP during surges
  • Complete 36 hours of unit orientation, with availability required every day during week one
  • Scrub requirements include navy blue or white scrubs (or a mix), Novant t-shirts permitted, and jackets must match uniform material and color; crocs with holes are not allowed
  • Complete pre-start and annual online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at time of application
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply with required cardiac telemetry experience
