Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiac Telemetry unit requiring 2 years of relevant experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work on a fast-paced primary cardiac and stroke unit within a hospital setting
  • Care for stable pre/post cardiac catheterization, pacemaker, ICD, and TR band patients, as well as CHF, dysrhythmia, unstable angina, and new CVA/TIA patients
  • Manage multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone, with titration of Cardizem drips
  • Target patient ratio of 1:5-6, which may fluctuate up to 6 patients during surges
  • High unit turnover with approximately 78-90 patients per week
  • Unit includes a COVID-designated bed side utilizing Opti-flow and BiPAP for stable, chronic use only
  • Uses telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2, and non-rebreather masks
  • Charting and communication systems include Epic (Dimensions), Pyxis, and SBAR
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling permitted
  • Every other weekend required, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period
  • On-call requirement based on patient census
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • 13-26 week contract options available, with 36 hours per week offered
  • Team lead support available to assist with admissions and discharges

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact)
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required, including for first-time travelers
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care/management, cardiac drip management, and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams required
  • Experience with oxygen administration and non-invasive airway management required
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Must complete required pre-start clinical modules (8-10 hours for acute care roles)

Additional Information

  • Provide cardiac and stroke care in a high-acuity, fast-turnover unit environment
  • First-time travelers will be considered as long as they meet the required 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience
  • Weekly hospital orientation with availability required every day during week one
  • Navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, along with Novant t-shirts permitted; jackets must match uniform color and material (no fleece); no crocs with holes allowed
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler, with facility approval required
  • Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
