Description
American Traveler is seeking a Cardiac Telemetry RN with 2+ years of cardiac tele experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications for a busy, fast-paced unit.
Details
- Primary cardiac and stroke unit caring for pre/post pacemaker, ICD, and cardiac catheterization patients
- Manages stable pre/post interventional peripheral vascular and cardiac procedure patients without sheaths
- Cares for unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
- Runs multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration
- Target patient ratio of 1:5-6, with surge capacity up to 6 patients
- High turnover unit averaging 78-90 patient admissions per week
- Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges
- Unit may care for COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BIPAP (chronic use only, no new BIPAP initiations)
- Uses telemetry monitoring, pulse ox, high flow O2, and Blanketrol equipment
- Charting completed in Epic (Dimensions), with Pyxis for medication and SBAR for communication
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45-07:15
- Weekend requirement: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Call requirement with frequency based on patient census
- Floating required within or near the facility
- 36 hours per week only for this role
- Self-scheduling available with leadership oversight
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license (pending acceptable at time of submission)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac telemetry experience with similar ratios and acuity
- Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips preferred
- Experience with post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath, and sheath removal preferred
- Experience with high flow nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management preferred
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references OK at submission)
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity, fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias and other cardiac emergencies
- Unit orientation totals 36 hours; travelers must be available every day during week one for hospital orientation
- Weekly orientation schedule
- Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
- Scrub requirement: navy blue or white scrubs, or a mix of both, plus approved Novant t-shirts; matching jackets required (no fleece); no crocs with holes
- First-time travelers welcome to apply with at least 2 years of experience
- Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a reduced rate
- Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status
- Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
