Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Surgical ICU (CSICU/CSU) Night Shift position in Tuscaloosa, AL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a Cardiac Surgical ICU (CSICU), a 4-bed unit focused on adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and other surgical conditions requiring critical care
  • Also covers a Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CSU), an 8-bed unit focused on post-operative recovery following cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgery
  • Primary focus is on post-operative recovery and complex invasive hemodynamic monitoring
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 13-week contract
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required
  • Floating to other units and hospitals is required
  • EMR: Meditech (experience not required)

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Alabama or a compact state required — no pending or temporary licenses accepted
  • No hits (past or current) on nursing license allowed
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with at least 1 year recent experience in the specialty
  • Associate degree in nursing (ADN) or higher required
  • Required certifications: BLS (AHA or Red Cross), NIH Stroke Scale (AHA)
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Current driver's license required
  • Two professional references from within the last year required

  • Both the CSICU and CSU are supported by a dedicated cardiovascular educator
  • Care approach is patient-centered, emphasizing comfort, safety, and a positive patient experience
  • PALS certification preferred for any assignments involving pediatric patients
  • Scrub color requirement: solid navy
  • All ICU RNs are required to complete an on-site assessment test in addition to an online pre-test
  • Orientation is virtual and includes competency-based modules — no pre-start HealthStream modules required
