Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Stepdown

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for our Cardiac Stepdown Unit. This position involves providing high-quality care for cardiac patients and working within a dynamic healthcare environment.

General Information

• Number of Beds: 30
• Patient Ratio: 5-6 : 1
• Unit Staffing: Unit clerk on days, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for day & night shifts, Nursing Supervisor, Hospitalists
• Type of Equipment: Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, Philips Telemetry, and MP2s
• Documentation System: Meditech-HCA version
• Medications: WOW with med drawers, PyxisES dispensing system
• Scheduling Requirements: Equivalent of every other weekend (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule)
• Floating Policy: May float to other medical/surgical areas such as general medical/surgical, orthopedic, progressive care unit (PCU), and surgical units with oncology as needed.

Patient Experience Responsibilities

• Engage in bedside rounding and hourly rounding utilizing the 5 P's.
• Communicate with PCTs regarding patient needs at the beginning and during shifts.
• Check glass board for department focus areas and utilize available resources for updates.

Qualifications

• Required Certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Preferred Experience: Cardiac knowledge is preferred.
• Advanced Skills Needed: Familiarity with Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips.
• Procedures Performed: Chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs as necessary.

Dress Code

Registered Nurses are required to wear navy scrubs, while Patient Care Technicians must wear ceil blue scrubs. A jacket may be worn if desired. Plain t-shirts in white, blue, grey, or black are permissible underneath but must not feature graphics. Artificial nails or gel nail polish are not allowed.

Unit Guidelines/Policies

• Documentation of telemetry application is required, including rhythm strip acknowledgment in each patient chart per shift.
• Abide by the NO PASS ZONE policy for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms.
