About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse for our Cardiac and Vascular Care unit. This position requires two years of strong cardiac or progressive care experience. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Patient Types and Common Diagnoses

  • Myocardial Infarction (MI)
  • Post-operative open-heart surgery (including TAVR and fem-pop bypass)
  • Pre- and post-operative open-heart patients (24-48 hours post-op)
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Tikosyn therapy
  • Pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs)
  • Patients requiring higher care but not ICU criteria (PCU-level patients)
  • Post-cardiac catheterization patients (femoral and radial approaches)
  • Carotid and thoracotomy patients transitioning from ICU
  • Microvascular flap procedures
  • Amputations related to vascular complications
  • Chest pain evaluation and arrhythmia management

Patient Ratios

Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-4.

Licensure and Certifications Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Skills Required

  • Ability to care for cardiovascular patients
  • Ability to identify and interpret cardiac rhythms
  • Experience with epidurals and chest tubes
  • Management of cardiac drips such as nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, dopamine, and dobutamine

Support within the Department

  • 2-4 Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) per shift
  • Free floating charge nurse available
  • Flex nurse during day shifts to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Hospitalists available 24/7
  • Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7
  • Cardiologist on-call 24/7
  • 2 telemetry technicians per shift

Technology and Equipment

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Medication Dispensing System: Pyxis
  • Philips monitors (portable and bedside)

Orientation

Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) and two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific training.

Scheduling

  • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
  • Two of three major holidays are expected to be worked
  • Requests for time off (RTO) will be managed by the nurse manager
  • Shift times: 0700-1930, 1900-0730
  • Scheduling follows a six-week cycle, with preferences taken into consideration, though not guaranteed
