Psychiatric RN – Behavioral Health Travel Contract
Facility: Research Psychiatric Center
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
EMR: Meditech
Specialty: Inpatient Behavioral Health / Psychiatry
Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 RN to 8 patients
Available Units
- ADOL: Adolescent psychiatric unit, ages 12–18; 18 beds
- Serenity: Lower-acuity adult unit; 24 beds
- ITU: Higher-acuity adult unit, including patients with thought disorders; 32 beds
- SRAD: Senior adult psychiatric unit; 16 beds
- VINE: Lower-acuity adult unit; 9 beds
Note: Nurses may float to units based on staffing needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess patients' mental health, behavior, and substance-use concerns.
- Develop and implement individualized psychiatric care plans.
- Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation for suicidal ideation, aggression, and behavioral emergencies.
- Use therapeutic communication to build trust and rapport with patients.
- Monitor vital signs, mental status changes, and medication responses.
Requirements
- Active Blue Card with CPI required at submission.
- Current BLS certification.
- Psychiatric/behavioral health nursing experience and skills appropriate to the assigned unit.
Strong mental health assessment, crisis intervention, medication management, and de-escalation skills.
Schedule & Additional Information
- Coverage is needed across all seven days, including weekends.
- Days off are not guaranteed unless specified in the contract.
- No on-call requirements.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:8; MHT ratio: approximately 1:12.
- Scrubs: Nurses wear blue; MHTs wear green or black.
- One position listed as available.
