Travel Psychiatric RN

Specialty: Inpatient Psychiatric / Behavioral Health

Home unit: Geriatric Psychiatry

Location: Des Moines, Iowa

Shift: Nights, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM

Schedule: Monday–Friday nights, with every other weekend required

Hours: 40 hours per week listed

EMR: EPIC

Scrub color: Solid navy blue

Orientation dates: November 9 or November 23; November 9 is strongly preferred.

Patient population and unit details

The position serves acute psychiatric patients with major mental health conditions and behavioral challenges, including:

• Mania and acute psychiatric symptoms
• Chronic behavioral concerns
• Aggression and potential violence
• Self-harm risk
• Geriatric psychiatric needs
• Adolescent and adult psychiatric patients

Unit bed counts:

• Geriatric: 12 beds
• Adolescent: 12 beds
• Adult: 24 beds

Patient ratios: May be as high as 1:4–6, depending on the unit and shift.

Required qualifications

• Active Iowa RN license or valid compact/multistate license at submission.
• At least 15 months of psychiatric/behavioral health experience.
• EPIC experience.
• Recent or current inpatient experience is highly preferred.
• Experience caring for geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients is required.
• Current AHA or American Red Cross BLS certification.
• Ability to manage behavioral emergencies and safely use restraints according to facility policy.

First-time travelers: Accepted with at least 12 months of psychiatric/behavioral health experience, subject to the other requirements.
