• Patient Ratio: Approximately 5-9 patients per nurse
• Documentation: Cerner electronic medical record
• Floating: May float to adult inpatient behavioral health areas

Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in North Carolina
• At least 1 year of registered nursing experience; behavioral health or medical-surgical experience strongly preferred
• Experience caring for geriatric patients is highly valued
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Strong patient assessment, critical-thinking, and clinical judgment skills
• Ability to de-escalate patients and respond calmly in challenging situations
• Compassionate, patient-centered approach with excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Flexibility to support adult inpatient areas when needed

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to geriatric behavioral health patients
• Complete comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments, monitor patient conditions, and communicate changes to the care team
• Administer medications and treatments according to established policies and provider orders
• Use therapeutic communication and behavioral health de-escalation techniques to promote patient safety and stability
• Perform vital signs, blood draws, bladder scans, and other routine clinical procedures
• Recognize and respond appropriately to rapid responses and code situations
• Collaborate with behavioral health staff and support personnel to develop and deliver individualized patient care
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient progress in the electronic medical record
• Promote a respectful, calming, and supportive environment for patients and families
