Psychiatric RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in Ohio or an active compact RN license in hand at the time of submission
• At least 1 year of recent permanent behavioral health nursing experience, preferably in a short-term acute care hospital setting
• Experience caring for geriatric psychiatric patients is strongly preferred
• Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Demonstrated experience with milieu management, medication management, patient assessments, therapeutic communication, and clinical documentation
• One recent professional reference from a manager, assistant nurse manager, supervisor, or director within the specialty
• Required licenses and certifications must be active and available at the time of submission
• Successful completion of required orientation assessments, including ECG rhythm recognition and medication safety testing
• Ability to complete required background screening, health screening, and facility orientation requirements

Psychiatric Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to geriatric patients experiencing behavioral health conditions
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and monitor changes in patient condition
• Administer medications safely and evaluate patient responses to treatment
• Support a therapeutic, structured, and safe patient milieu
• Use de-escalation, therapeutic communication, and crisis-intervention techniques as appropriate
• Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to develop and evaluate individualized treatment plans
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards
• Provide patient and family education related to treatment, medications, safety, and discharge planning
• Participate in unit activities, handoff communication, and ongoing quality and safety initiatives
