Behavioral Health RN Job Requirements

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in North Carolina
• At least 1 year of recent Registered Nurse experience in behavioral health, inpatient psychiatry, or a related healthcare setting
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current CPI or Handle With Care (HWC) certification; candidates with HWC may be considered, with training available when applicable
• Experience caring for adult behavioral health or psychiatric patients preferred
• Ability to provide safe, therapeutic, and compassionate nursing care in an inpatient environment
• Willingness to work scheduled 12-hour night shifts and meet all orientation requirements

Behavioral Health Nursing Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and provide professional nursing care for adult patients with behavioral health and co-occurring conditions
• Support patients experiencing schizophrenia, dementia, bipolar disorder, psychosis, depression, anxiety, dual diagnosis, and medical detoxification
• Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring patient response and clinical status
• Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately to behavioral or medical concerns
• Use therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques to promote a safe, respectful care environment
• Accurately document assessments, nursing interventions, and patient progress in Cerner
• Collaborate with providers, mental health professionals, nursing assistants, and families to support continuity of care
• Follow facility policies, safety procedures, and applicable standards for behavioral health and psychiatric nursing
