Description:

Anesthesia Technologist – Days (Monday–Friday)

Shift: Days | Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM | On-call, callback, holidays, and weekends per unit needs

Contract Rate Information
  • Bill rate of $48 applies to 1-year contracts only
  • Bill rate of $46 applies to contracts less than 1 year
Specific Responsibilities

Under limited direct supervision:

Patient Care & Anesthesia Support (20%)
  • Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia
  • Prepare anesthesia equipment prior to patient arrival
  • Place anesthesia monitors
  • Ensure cleanliness of anesthesia equipment
  • Ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies
  • Set up medications and supplies where applicable
  • Continuously communicate with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to ensure their needs are met throughout the day
  • Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and placement of central line catheters
Advanced Surgical Case Support (20%)
  • Operate the cell-saver machine
  • Keep track of lab reports
  • Participate in cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, trauma, and other advanced surgical cases
  • Work directly with service-specific faculty Division Chief of designated specialty
  • Provide on-call coverage
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting (20%)
  • Provide primary support in ensuring anesthesia equipment is in good working order
  • Ensure preventive maintenance is completed
  • Set up and operate sophisticated equipment
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting
  • Serve as the key resource person in using and maintaining specialized equipment
Training & Staff Development (15%)
  • Assist the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in the development and implementation of in-service training programs
  • Assist in training staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist
Equipment Setup & Testing (15%)
  • Perform anesthesia equipment setup and troubleshooting
  • Test infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors
  • Calibrate anesthesia machines
  • Attach fiberoptic bronchoscopes to the video monitor
Room Setup & Inter-Unit Coordination (5%)
  • Set up rooms between cases
  • Set up carts throughout the day
  • Provide full-service setup at the end of the day
  • Work with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment
  • Perform setup and support of ectopic procedures for anesthesia care, ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures
Supervisory Backup & Additional Duties (5%)
  • Provide backup to shift supervisor in his/her absence due to vacation or illness
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager
Required Qualifications
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
  • Two (2) years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist
Preferred Qualifications
  • A four-year college education, including related technical training; or a two-year college education which included technical training closely related to this position and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or other nationally recognized professional certifying body
