Description

American Traveler is hiring an Ambulatory OR RN requiring an SC or Compact RN license and at least 1 year of relevant surgical experience.

Details

  • Work in the Ambulatory OR / Pre-Op/PACU unit of a hospital-based ambulatory surgery setting
  • Unit includes 20 pre/post patient bays, 2 ORs, 2 GI procedural rooms, and 1 VIR procedural room, staffed by 10 RNs and 1 PCT
  • Cares for a variety of surgical specialties including Orthopedics (total joints, arthroscopy, hand, shoulder & elbow), Interventional Radiology (VIR), and GI (upper/lower scopes)
  • Responsibilities include pre-op patient prep such as history review, medication reconciliation, vital signs, EKGs, IV starts, FSBS, and administration of IV fluids, antibiotics, and pre-meds
  • Post-anesthesia recovery duties include monitoring patients through phases of anesthesia recovery, reviewing discharge instructions, and discharging patients via wheelchair to vehicle
  • Schedule is 4x10-hour day shifts, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional late shifts a few times per month
  • No on-call requirements
  • Possibility of floating within the Periop facility as needed
  • Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

  • Active SC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant OR/surgical experience required
  • Experience in Ophthalmology, Ortho, ENT, GYN, GU, Endocrine, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Robotics, or Total Joints preferred
  • Well-rounded specialty experience aligned with unit caseload required; unit does not perform general surgery, L&D, or pediatric cases
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Skills in administration of blood/blood products, cardiac monitoring, infection control, laser and radiation safety, specimen handling, peripheral IV starts, Universal Protocol time-out procedures, urinary catheterization, and wound management preferred
  • Scrub ability for orthopedic and arthroscopic surgeries a plus but not required
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR nurses to deliver safe, effective patient care in a fast-paced ambulatory surgical environment
  • Radiation badge will be provided by parent company
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Local candidates within 60 miles are accepted, though non-local candidates are prioritized
  • Previous MUSC perm or PRN staff must be separated from the system for at least 1 year before returning as a travelers
  • All requested time off must be submitted at the time of application, with approval based on facility needs; multiple RTO requests during the contract are typically denied
  • Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • During hurricane season (June through November), staff may be reassigned to emergency response teams as needed
