This is an extended posting through 10/10/2026 for Transportation Worker II positions in Division 5, Traffic Services. Multiple Transportation Worker II positions will be filled from this posting.
This posting is for Transportation Worker II positions in Traffic Services. The primary purpose of these positions are to install signs and perform maintenance activities involving installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices along the state road network for Division 5. Employees will be responsible for the installation of signage associated with road closures and detours. Employees will maintain inventory of all signs and materials kept on the truck such as posts, nuts, bolts, and specialized hardware for historical markers and decorative signposts. Employees will perform snow and ice control operations during storm conditions.
Visual acuity is required. Safety toe footwear is required. Must be able to communicate effectively with people. Must be able to work in extreme temperature conditions and walk and stand for long periods of time on uneven and sloping terrain and around high volumes of traffic. May be required to perform heavy lifting. Position may require evening and weekend work.
The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. As part of the hiring approval process, NCDOT will run a driver license check after conducting interviews, but prior to offering a position.
