Description

Position Description General responsibilities include work under the direction or the Shop Foreman in performing journeyman level work in the repair service and Maintenance of school buses and district support vehicles. Maintain the order and cleanliness in the shop facility. 260 workdays per year 8 hours p er day Salary and workdays are established by the current PSE agreement and District calendar. Shift schedule will be determined by the T ransportation Supervisor. Shift hours will be between 600am and 600pm. Subject to overtime Essential Job Functions Diagnose and repair mechanical electrical and engine defects in buses and district equipment. Overhaul andor replace engines transmissions brake systems and other major components. Repair or replace alternators and other electrical components as needed. Perform tune -ups Utilize diagnostic equipment for troubleshooting. Must have the physical ability to lift 50 lbs or greater as well and lifting overhead 50 lbs or greater. Repair and replace seats glass sheet metal latches and other body components and assemblies. Change oil and filters install antifreeze repair tires adjust brakes and lube chassis wheel bearings and other assemblies. Perform preventative maintenance and regular bus safety ins pections as established by the Shop Foreman and Transportation Supervisor. Verify operational safety of equipment and devices such as brakes clutches lights and buzzers emergency exits wipers signs tires etc. Minor repairs including replacing light s spark plugs ignition parts latches and switches as required. Clean and organize shop parts room and other maintenance facilities as established the Shop Foreman and Transportation Supervisor. Complete vehicle maintenance forms and records i.e. wo rk orders stock records purchase orders etc. as required. Work independently under the direction of the Shop Foreman and Transportation Supervisor. Use multiple communication systems email computers radios etc. Substitute on bus routes and for disp atch during staff shortages.could require split shifts Professionally interact with colleagues members of the public and students. Uphold school district promise policies rules and regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned or required. ASE certification a recognized apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic or full journeyman status as an automotive mechanic or a minimum of four years applicable work experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Demonstrated successful experience as a fleet mechanic or line mechanic on heavy equipment with multiple systems. Strong troubleshooting skills and techniques. Prefer thorough knowledge of and ability to perform required maintenance for school buses and other district vehicles. Maintenance will comply with guidelines as established to meet Washington State Patrol inspection requirements. Ability to operate lubrication equipment hoist battery charger spark plug tester compression gauges torque wrenches welding equipment gri nders timing lights drills presses air wrenches and other tools and equipment as required in the performance of assigned duties. Ability to lift 50 lbs. or 30 of body weight unassisted whichever is less Maintain the ability to stand reach lift b end kneel stoop climb and pull. Ability to make roadside repairs as required or tows disabled vehicles to the maintenance shop.
