Transportation Supervisor

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant coordination of over-the-road (OTR) transportation operations to ensure continuous delivery of ore and materials to support plant production requirements. This position oversees transportation personnel, manages driver schedules, ensures regulatory compliance, maintains equipment readiness, and serves as a key liaison between transportation, mining, plant operations, and Human Resources.

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Class A CDL with Tanker and Doubles endorsements required.
• Current DOT Medical Card and Physical certification required.
• Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience, preferably in a heavy transportation, mining, or industrial environment.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to work on-call and respond to operational issues outside normal business hours.
• Ability to work in both office and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions and mining operations.
• Frequent interaction with drivers, plant personnel, mine operations, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Strong knowledge of transportation operations, DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, MSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in a transportation, logistics, mining, or heavy industrial environment.
• Excellent driving and safety record.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, email, and transportation-related systems.
• Supervise and coordinate daily transportation operations, ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of ore to the processing facility.
• Lead and oversee OTR Drivers and Lead OTR Drivers operating across four crews in a 24/7 environment.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, MSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
• Promote a strong safety culture by identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and participating in the development and implementation of behavior-based safety programs.
• Monitor road, traffic, and weather conditions to proactively address transportation challenges and maintain uninterrupted operations.
• Evaluate and utilize available resources, including staffing, equipment, and trailer configurations, to meet production and transportation requirements.
• Maintain effective communication with plant operations regarding ore orders and adjust transportation schedules as necessary.
• Coordinate with mine operations to resolve issues that may impact transportation activities, including stockpile access, equipment availability, road conditions, and tire damage.
• Maintain the Vines Hill operation, ensuring equipment is fueled, stockpiles are accessible, and loading areas remain operational.
• Develop, maintain, and adjust driver schedules while managing coverage for absences, vacations, and operational fluctuations.
• Coordinate with Human Resources to facilitate DOT random testing programs and ensure compliance requirements are met.
• Train and onboard new drivers on routes, equipment operation, trailer configurations, ore dump locations, and site-specific procedures.
• Collect, maintain, and report load and transportation data to management, including operational updates and performance metrics.
• Operate trucks and trailers as needed for equipment transfers, operational support, and driver schedule coverage.
• Monitor deliveries and transportation activities to ensure service expectations and production requirements are achieved.
• Assist with hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of transportation personnel.
• Ensure accurate payroll approvals, timekeeping, time-off administration, and absentee reporting in coordination with Human Resources.
• Maintain transportation records, vehicle maintenance documentation, driver qualification files, and regulatory compliance records.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance transportation efficiency, safety, service levels, and cost effectiveness.
• Respond promptly to transportation emergencies, delays, or service disruptions to minimize operational impact.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
