Position Summary

The Transportation Permit Specialist will work as part of a small, diverse team responsible for administering permits for oversize and overweight tractor-trailers. The position involves reviewing transportation permits, verifying routes and restrictions, ensuring compliance with state and federal rules and regulations, and providing customer support to commercial carriers regarding permit status and updates.

Job Responsibilities

• Review oversize and overweight permits for accuracy and completeness.
• Review permits for routes and restrictions to ensure safe travel throughout the state.
• Review permits to ensure compliance with current rules and laws.
• Provide customer support to commercial carriers regarding permit status and updates.
• Analyze permit information and determine compliance with applicable state and federal rules, regulations, and standards.
• Support transportation and logistics operations involving freight movement, tracking, heavy haul, and permit purchasing.
• Utilize permit management, permit routing, data, systems, and GIS tools as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
• Associate degree from an accredited college plus two years of increasingly responsible experience; OR
• High school diploma or equivalent plus four years of increasingly responsible experience.

Required / Preferred Experience

• Customer service experience is required.
• Motor carrier permit registration experience is preferred.
• Experience analyzing compliance with state and federal rules, regulations, or related standards is preferred.
• Experience with transportation or logistics operations, including freight movement and tracking, heavy haul, and permit purchasing, is helpful.
• Data and systems experience is preferred.
• Experience with permit management and permit routing software is preferred.
• Experience with GIS tools is preferred.
