Shape the Future of Transportation in Boise and Beyond

DKS Associates is growing! In November 2024, we proudly welcomed Six Mile Engineering, a respected Boise-area firm, into DKS, a 100% employee-owned company. With this acquisition, we’ve combined Six Mile’s local expertise in roadway design with the full breadth of DKS’s national strengths in transportation planning, engineering, and technology. We are seeking an experienced transportation engineering leader to serve as our Transportation Engineering Practice Leader and Office Director. The ideal candidate brings broad experience delivering transportation projects, building client relationships, leading multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring technical staff with roadway design serving as one of several areas of technical expertise. This senior leadership role combines responsibility for transportation practice growth with leadership of our Boise office, including financial performance, employee development, strategic planning, and operational excellence.

The Opportunity

This strategic leadership role blends transportation consulting expertise, business development, technical leadership, office management, and financial stewardship to advance DKS's reputation as a leader in transportation consulting. While roadway design remains an important technical discipline, this leader will collaborate across transportation planning, traffic engineering, multimodal, and technology practices to deliver integrated transportation solutions. Success in this role requires balancing client service, practice growth, office leadership, and development of future employee owners.

This is more than a job, it’s your chance to set the direction of a growing practice, expand roadway and multimodal services, and mentor the next generation of leaders.

Why Join DKS?
  • Reputation: For over 45 years, DKS has been a trusted partner in transportation design, traffic engineering, and technology innovation.
  • Ownership Culture: As a 100% employee-owned firm, every employee has a voice and a stake in our success.
  • Growth: Help expand DKS's transportation engineering practice throughout Idaho while helping shape the future of transportation services across the company.
  • Breadth of Services: Our work spans roadway and intersection design, transit, ITS, connected vehicles, and emerging mobility.

Your Role as Transportation Engineering Practice Leader and Office Director
  • Define the strategic direction for DKS's transportation engineering practice in collaboration with transportation planning, traffic engineering, and technology leaders, with roadway design serving as a key area of expertise.
  • Track industry trends and market opportunities to position the firm for growth.
  • Contribute to company-wide strategic planning and leadership forums.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with agencies, clients, and partner firms.
  • Identify and win new business opportunities; lead proposals and interviews.
  • Lead the Boise office's business and financial performance, including budgeting, staffing, utilization, and growth objectives.
  • Develop and mentor high-performing teams through coaching, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
  • Partner with regional and executive leadership to drive strategic growth, operational excellence, and a strong employee-owner culture.
  • Manage a portfolio of complex transportation projects including roadway design, multimodal corridors, complete streets, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, intersections, traffic operations improvements, and other transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Provide high-level QA/QC, technical oversight, and project delivery guidance.
  • Mentor transportation professionals across offices in technical excellence, project delivery, client service, business development, and leadership.
  • Support recruitment, development, and retention of exceptional transportation professionals.
  • Represent DKS in industry organizations and promote thought leadership through conferences, committees, and publications.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance work culture.

"Don't meet every requirement? At DKS Associates, we are dedicated to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, so even if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we strongly encourage you to apply. You may be just who we're looking for."

What We’re Looking For
  • Transportation Engineering Expertise: 15+ years delivering transportation infrastructure projects with significant roadway design experience and demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary transportation teams.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated success leading complex transportation projects, managing multidisciplinary teams, serving as a trusted client advisor, and coaching employees through performance and career development.
  • Business and Financial Acumen: Experience managing office, department, or practice financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, utilization management, and profitability goals.

  • Professional Credentials: PE license required; other specialty certifications a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to grow a practice, expand services, and strengthen DKS’s presence in Idaho and beyond.

Your Impact

At DKS, you'll do more than deliver transportation projects.
