We are seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer 4 to serve as the Unit Leader of the Initial Design Unit, reporting directly to the Specialized Engineering Section Head. In this key leadership role, you will manage daily section operations, optimize workflow efficiency, train and mentor engineering staff while conducting regular performance appraisals. Utilizing your expertise in highway engineering, you will oversee the preparation and review of design studies for complex bridge and highway improvement projects, compile formal design reports, and review work from both internal staff and external consultants. Additionally, you will represent the Division of Highways at public meetings, respond to public inquiries, and serve as a technical expert across the division. May perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications

TRAINING/EDUCATION

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of West Virginia (or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain WV P.E. registration by comity within 6 months of hire)

• Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program.

Note: For the training/education, the qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be considered for employment. Please attach a degree transcript or diploma to the application.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE

• Seven + (7) years of progressive, professional civil engineering experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT

• Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required

Preferred experience: At least three (3) years of post-licensure experience performing complex design/construction management or supervisory engineering duties.
