Job Description

Transportation Experience Preferred, CDL Class B Driver's License Required 

Position Summary: Drives a van or bus to transport residents by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

· Drives vehicle from community area to destination according to an assigned schedule.
· Assists disabled passengers into and out of vehicle.
· Secures passengers' wheelchairs with restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during a trip.
· Operates radio or similar device to communicate with base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
· Cleans and services vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
· Schedules appointments for residents to be transported.
· Meets all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
· Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Educational Requirements and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Current commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class B is required.

· Must provide a current DMV print out containing the driving history of the past (10) years.
· Experience in a customer service environment, preferably in a senior living setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Language Ability:

• Ability to communicate effectively by speaking the primary language of the residents.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Cognitive Demands:

• Ability to apply common sense understanding by carrying out simple one- or two-step instructions.
• Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Competencies:

• Must demonstrate an interest in working with a senior population.
• Interact with guests, residents and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
• Ability to respond promptly to resident needs.
• Supports organization's goals and values.
• Balances team and individual responsibilities.

Environmental Adaptability:

• Works both outdoors and indoors all year.
• Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
• Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
• Continuous exposure to residents who are ill, confused, irritable and irrational
