This role oversees data collection, technical analyses, modeling, and documentation to identify and address traffic operations and safety deficiencies for all modes of travel. The position combines hands-on technical traffic analysis and design with project management, client interaction, staff mentoring, and business development responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver small to mid-sized traffic engineering projects and tasks, as well as traffic components of larger multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish.
  • Oversee planning and execution of data collection activities to support traffic studies and transportation design efforts.
  • Perform technical traffic analyses to identify traffic operations and safety-related deficiencies for all modes of transportation.
  • Develop travel demand forecasts for current and future conditions to support planning, design, and operational decisions.
  • Apply microsimulation software such as VISSIM and TransModeler, and capacity analysis tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic and SIDRA, to evaluate traffic operations and prepare engineering and traffic reports.
  • Prepare clear, well-structured technical documentation, including traffic impact studies, safety studies, and other traffic engineering reports.
  • Participate in and present project findings in writing and at client meetings, technical group gatherings, and day or evening public meetings.
  • Identify mitigation alternatives and safety countermeasures to address current and future traffic operations and safety deficiencies.
  • Evaluate alternatives and document measures of effectiveness to support recommendations for proposed improvements.
  • Lead traffic design tasks, including development of alternatives and design/construction plans to maintain traffic during construction of transportation improvements.
  • Prepare signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal design and construction documents based on MUTCD guidance and standards.
  • Ensure traffic signal and signing plans conform to applicable traffic engineering guidance documents and industry best practices.
  • Oversee and direct the analytical work of engineers and planners, providing technical guidance and quality review.
  • Mentor staff in technical skills, project execution, and professional development.
  • Participate in business development efforts, including assisting in the development of proposals to secure new traffic-related work and supporting pursuits for multi-discipline projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders to coordinate project tasks, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Maintain a strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines and project milestones.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Approximately 5 years of experience in transportation operations and safety roles.
