Job Summary:

HCA HealthONE Presbyterian/St. Luke’s is seeking a Medical Director of Transplant Hepatology to lead our growing liver transplant program, in collaboration with the Surgical Director of Transplant, in central Denver, CO.

The Medical Director will lead the liver transplant program in collaboration with the Surgical Director of Transplant, providing clinical and administrative leadership to grow the program, keep practice current and compliant, and expand access to transplant services across the region through monthly visits to our outreach sites.

Qualified Candidates:
  • Program leadership experience preferred (e.g., medical director, associate medical director, or section/program lead)
  • Experience building referral networks and community or outreach relationships preferred
  • Lead the liver transplant program in collaboration with the Surgical Director and multidisciplinary team, and serve as the OPTN Primary Transplant Physician (or meet OPTN criteria to do so)
  • Champion timely, thorough evaluation and appropriate waitlisting of candidates, and advocate for patient access to transplant, including lower-MELD candidates and expanded use of DCD livers and normothermic machine perfusion
  • Lead or co-lead the Liver Selection committee with a collaborative, patient-centered approach
  • Keep program protocols current with AASLD, AST, and OPTN/UNOS guidance, and lead quality (QAPI) efforts and SRTR outcomes review
  • Build and sustain referral relationships through monthly travel to see patients at our regional outreach sites, and through engagement and education with referring gastroenterologists, hepatologists, and primary care providers
  • Maintain a consistent, visible on-site presence and reliable availability for patients, colleagues, and referring physicians, including participation in call
  • Mentor and support hepatologists, APPs, and transplant coordinators, and foster a collaborative team culture
  • Contribute to strategic planning, program growth, and performance metrics with hospital and HealthONE leadership
  • Board certified in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology
  • Significant transplant hepatology experience within an active liver transplant program (7+ years preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of OPTN/UNOS bylaws and policies, CMS Conditions of Participation, SRTR metrics, and current organ allocation policy
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with transplant surgeons and multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Commitment to staying current with national guidelines and evolving transplant practice
  • Eligible for Colorado medical licensure; able to travel once a month to see patients at regional outreach sites
