Description

We are seeking a Transmission Line Project Manager to manage the technical, scheduling, quality, and financial aspects of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage transmission line projects. This position will also manage and develop client relationships and support the marketing of power-delivery services to existing and prospective clients.

The Project Manager will oversee projects throughout the full lifecycle, including the proposal phase, planning and startup, execution, reporting, and closeout. Periodic travel to company and client offices for in-person meetings is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project management leadership for high-voltage and extra-high-voltage transmission line projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Oversee project design, budgets, forecasts, margins, key performance indicators, external events, and risk contingencies.
  • Ensure projects meet contractual obligations and client expectations.
  • Develop strategies to engage stakeholders at all levels, maintain effective relationships, and communicate project progress.
  • Support project pursuit and initiation activities, including go/no-go decisions, contract reviews, risk-mitigation strategies, and pricing reviews.
  • Participate in and, when required, lead contract negotiations and client presentations.
  • Ensure the appropriate level of technical review is completed by qualified personnel in accordance with applicable quality assurance and quality control plans.
  • Provide verbal and written input to multidisciplinary project teams and strategic guidance to clients.
  • Manage assigned staff and provide performance guidance and leadership.
  • Maintain required project documentation, including risk documentation, project management plans, quality plans, safety plans, and communication plans.
  • Lead project kickoff meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with area and technical managers to address project staffing and subcontracting needs.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, including monthly status updates, safety incidents, major issues, and related scope or budget impacts.
  • Participate in project performance reviews and assist with identifying root causes, potential solutions, and recovery plans.
  • Provide regular project updates to clients, technical teams, and business unit managers.
  • Identify and address emerging issues involving project scope, risk, budget, or schedule.
  • Complete formal project closeout activities.
  • Facilitate and document lessons-learned meetings with key project staff.
  • Collaborate with professionals from multiple disciplines to provide strategic solutions to clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical judgment regarding company funds, resources, and professional conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field within the power and energy market.
  • At least seven years of relevant post-education project management experience within the power-delivery or utility industry.
  • At least five years of applicable industry experience working for or providing engineering services to investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, cooperatives, municipalities, or similar organizations.
  • At least three years of experience leading engineering or construction teams supporting medium to large electric utility clients on high-voltage or extra-high-voltage transmission line projects.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and tools, including:
    • Contract management
    • Internal and external team-meeting management
    • Earned value management
    • Change management
    • Risk management
    • Schedule management
    • Critical Path Method scheduling using Primavera P6 or an equivalent platform
    • Financial management
  • Strong understanding of project-delivery processes within the power-delivery and utility industries.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect business objectives with project management requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and lead mid- to senior-level project team members.
  • Commitment to quality assurance and quality control requirements.
  • Advanced technical writing and computer skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with applicable health, safety, drug and alcohol, and anti-harassment policies.
  • Ability to accommodate varying schedules and work hours based on project needs.
  • Ability to travel occasionally based on project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering.
  • Project management certification, such as PMP or CAPM.
  • Professional Engineer license.

Salary: $120,000–$160,000 annually  (Depending on experience and qualifications)

The following locations will also be considered: Missouri, Minesota, Michigan, Colorado, Idaho, and Texas.
