As a Transit Bus Maintenance Technician, you’ll lead the charge in keeping our fleet running smoothly performing thorough inspections, high-quality repairs, and preventative maintenance so our buses remain safe, clean, and reliable for daily revenue service.
5-Day Work Week - 40/Hours A week
Fleet Safety & Reliability: Maintain transit buses to ensure maximum safety, mechanical reliability, and passenger comfort in compliance with transit authority regulations and ECOFLEET standards.
Inspections & Diagnostics: Perform high-quality preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs), diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty transit buses (diesel, hybrid, electric powertrains, air brakes, and HVAC)
Efficiency: Complete maintenance tasks safely and cost-effectively to keep fleet downtime to an absolute minimum.
Technical Growth: Stay current on modern transit bus systems by actively participating in company-funded ongoing training and skill development programs.
Documentation: Accurately log work orders, parts usage, and inspection findings directly into the fleet management software.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Technical school degree or diesel mechanic program completion preferred. Prior heavy-duty truck, bus, or transit vehicle maintenance experience highly valued.
Certifications: Possess or be willing to obtain applicable ASE Certifications (Medium-Heavy Truck or Transit Bus series to qualify for pay bonuses).
CDL Requirement: Must possess (or obtain within a designated training period) a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) Endorsement and no air brake restrictions per DOT regulations.
DOT Medical Card: Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate required.
Hand Tools: Must bring a baseline personal tool inventory suitable for heavy-duty maintenance (supplemented by our annual tool allowance after Year 1).
Work Availability: 24/7 fleet operation requires flexibility for assigned 4-day shifts, which may include 2nd shift, 3rd shift, weekends, or holidays based on shop needs.
Age & Communication: Must be at least 21 years old. Ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic reports, and communicate clearly with shop leadership.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical Agility: Standing, walking, crouching, crawling, and reaching under vehicles for extended periods.
Heavy Lifting: Ability to regularly lift and move 75–100 lbs (tires, brake drums, heavy components).
Shop Environment: Standard heavy-duty vehicle shop environment with variable temperatures, ambient noise, and exhaust exposure.
