Position Summary

Plan, coordinate and implement all in-house training and educational activities for maintenance personnel in the Transit Department; provide training on a variety of preventative and diagnostic maintenance processes and procedures, conduct research into specialized training classes and evaluate current training programs and perform a variety of professional and technical tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.

Essential and Supplemental Functions

SSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to thefunctions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of thejob with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Coordinate training and educational activities for transit maintenance personnel; provide training on a variety of preventative and diagnostic maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for providing training services; implement policies and procedures.
  • Monitor program performance; recommend and implement modifications to systems and procedures.
  • Research and plan specialized training activities, and classes including in-service training to provide to the department staff; coordinate, schedule and conduct training activities.
  • Promote and coordinate specific activities within the training program including course schedules and any specialized training programs being offered; prepare program event and material including flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.
  • May plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of lower lever staff.
  • May be required to schedule usage of meeting facilities for activities including training events, classes, and activities; provide information and assistance to users of facilities.
  • Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; maintain records for training event attendance; maintain and file training reports; prepare statistical reports as required.
  • May prepare budget considerations; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
  • May be required to provide specialized training regarding the ADA population and comprehensive CDL training.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor program compliance with laws, rules and regulations related to provision of training and related services.
  • Develop survey instruments; conduct surveys of program participants to determine participant needs; interpret and record survey results; implement program changes in response to results.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of organizational training; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • May be responsible for supervising shops and personnel in the absence of Transit Supervisors.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in organizational training, adult education or a related field and;

Three (3) years of experience on maintenance and repair of class 1 thru 8 vehicles to include one (1) year organizational training and;

One (1) year direct supervisory or technical lead experience in an administrative capacity.

HVAC maintenance and repair on class 1 thru 8 vehicles experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (Class A or B) for the past two (2) continuous years.

Possession of a valid City of Albuquerque Operator Permit (COP) within 90 days from date of hire.

Possession of a valid AC Recovery certification within 90 days from date of hire.

Possession of a valid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) license within 90 days from date of hire.

Working Conditions

Environmental:

Office environment; may include field environment with exposure to noise, gas, fumes and inclement weather conditions.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time.
