Position Overview

Huntington Ingalls Industries is seeking an experienced Training Representative 3 / Apprentice Academic Instructor to support The Apprentice School in delivering high-quality academic and technical instruction to apprentices.

The instructor will prepare and deliver classroom instruction, evaluate apprentice performance, maintain curriculum and course documentation, and collaborate with craft instructors to ensure academic instruction remains relevant to practical shipbuilding skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver instruction for assigned academic or technical courses.
  • Develop and update lesson plans, syllabi, handouts, visual aids, and course materials.
  • Conduct classroom instruction using appropriate teaching strategies, including lectures, demonstrations, and discussions.
  • Evaluate apprentice progress through assignments, examinations, testing, and grading.
  • Provide individual instruction, additional assistance, and retesting opportunities when appropriate.
  • Enforce Apprentice School and company policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with developments in assigned teaching disciplines, instructional methodologies, and shipbuilding applications.
  • Collaborate with craft instructors and lead craft instructors to align academic instruction with practical craft training.
  • Support Apprentice School activities such as pre-apprenticeship instruction and admissions interviewing.
  • Maintain accurate academic records, class documentation, schedules, and curriculum materials.
  • Assist management with administrative responsibilities and special projects.

Required Qualifications

For Technical Core instruction:

  • Associate degree from an accredited college/university in the applicable discipline and/or
  • Documented scholarly or professional achievement in the applicable subject area.

For General Education instruction:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
  • At least 18 graduate credits in the discipline being taught

Compensation

Pay Rate: $38.00-$47.00/hour

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM, with the role supporting Apprentice School academic instruction and related administrative activities.
