Job Summary

Under direction, is responsible for performing professional-level work researching, analyzing, planning, developing, and conducting training programs for skilled, technical, and professional development. Will work directly with adults in the public with basic educational needs. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Location

Carver Branch Library - 300 Porter St, San Antonio, TX 78210.

Based on departmental needs, may assist with the other seven (7) Learn at SAPL locations.

Work Hours

Will require a flexible schedule on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., with some occasional evenings and weekends.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops educational and skill development training programs.
  • Conducts and coordinates training classes.
  • Develops teaching materials and prepares detailed lesson plans.
  • Develops and writes training manuals, handout materials, visual aids, and program outlines.
  • Assists line supervisors with orientation of new employees.
  • Conducts research on various topics for future program development.
  • Reviews on a regular basis training films and other audiovisual aids for use in training programs.
  • Plans in-house training with cooperation of other staff members.
  • Develops and maintains training records and participant files.
  • Coordinates training and educational programs with local colleges, universities, and private institutions.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with preferred coursework in Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a teacher or training instructor.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Drivers License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of teaching methods for adults with basic educational needs.
  • Knowledge of individual and community needs assessments.
  • Ability to use and teach digital technologies.
  • Ability to tailor training to individual strengths and development plans.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Ability to perform all the physical, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position including decision making.
