Position Overview
SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Senior Trainer delivers and ensures the delivery of high-quality and impactful learning experiences while supporting consistency, quality, and capability across S: US’s training programs. In addition to facilitation, this role contributes to shaping, refining, and scaling learning programming and operations as the learning function matures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver training (in-person, online sync, online async, on-demand) across the organization, either through direct facilitation or coordinating facilitation via our internal and external training network.
- Oversee training quality and maintenance of our training delivery, through ownership of the train-the-trainer program and training quality assurance processes.
- Manage relationships with external L&D vendors. Build new vendor relationships
- Accountable for key programs offered throughout the organization, owning strategy, design, management, and continuous improvement of these programs, including but not limited to new hire orientation.
- Collaborate or leads the design of new L&D programs (formal, social, experiential) and associated curricula.
- Ensure continuous improvement of programs through evaluation support, analysis, and collaborative action planning and execution.
- Act as an administrator for the S:US learning management system. Build courses in the LMS. Ensure learning opportunities configured to ensure intended access, enrollment/completion rules, and notifications.
- Supervise PT/FT trainers.
- Act as a partner and representative of L&D at S:US internally and externally.
- Act as a major contributor to L&D operations, including but not limited to budget management, LMS administration, reporting, relationship building, cross-departmental collaboration, communications, and project management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Learning facilitation (advanced). Delivers across modalities; coaches’ other facilitators; ensures consistency and quality.
- Program design (intermediate). Co-designs curricula, evaluates programs, and drives iterative improvements.
- Relationship management / collaboration (advanced). Manages vendors, partners across departments, collaborates on program design and development, represents L&D internally and externally.
- Operational and program management (intermediate). Handles LMS admin, budgets, logistics, data, reporting, comms, and multi‑workstream coordination.
- People leadership (intermediate). Supervises trainers, sets standards, provides coaching and support.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 7+ years of experience in education, learning & development, training, social services, and/or nonprofit organizations.
- 3+ years of experience in learning facilitation and learning design across all delivery modalities (in‑person, virtual synchronous, asynchronous, on‑demand).
- 3+ years of project management experience.
- Experience training others how to train (train‑the‑trainer).
- 1+ years of people‑management experience.
- 1+ years of experience in vendor management.
- 1+ years of LMS administration experience.
- 2+ years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven experience owning at least one enterprise‑level learning program end‑to‑end (strategy, design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement).
- Excellent oral presentation, relationship‑building, and organizational skills.
- Flexibility in training schedule, locations, and travel to S:US sites.
- Ability to apply evidence‑based adult learning principles.
- Ability to design and adapt audience‑specific learning experiences.
- Knowledge and practical application of digital accessibility standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in learning content development (e‑learning, video production, graphic design) using tools such as Articulate Rise, Storyline, Canva, and Camtasia.
- 3+ years of experience working in a social services agency at the program or frontline‑operations level.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a train‑the‑trainer program and implement training quality assurance processes (e.g., facilitator standards, observation rubrics, calibration).
- Ability to design, interpret, and analyze Kirkpatrick Level 1–3 evaluation data and translate insights into actionable improvement plans.
- Experience with Litmos LMS administration.
Qualification – Physical Requirements
- Ability to carry, lift, and transport up to 50 lbs of training materials, equipment, and supplies as needed for in‑person sessions and onsite support.
- Ability to set up and break down training rooms, including moving tables, chairs, flip charts, laptops, projectors, and other instructional materials.
- Ability to travel between multiple S:US program sites as required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during training delivery.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours (9-5).
Work Environment
- This role requires a combination of office‑based work and onsite presence at S:US program locations across New York City and New York State. The position routinely interacts with staff at all levels and may require travel between multiple sites in a single day.
- Training delivery may occur in classrooms, conference rooms, community program spaces, or residential program environments, each with varying levels of noise, foot traffic, and activity. The role requires comfort working in dynamic, fast‑paced, and mission‑driven settings where needs may shift quickly.
- The position also involves setting up and breaking down training rooms, moving equipment, and handling supplies, sometimes in environments that include standard office conditions, shared program spaces, and locations with limited dedicated training areas.
