Responsible for performing the installation, maintenance, and operation of traffic control systems within the guidelines of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), department regulations, manufacturer's recommendations, and other associated handbooks and technical manuals. The Traffic Signal Technician should be familiar with Signal Technician Assistant knowledge and skills. The Traffic Signal Technician is assigned more difficult tasks that require the use of sound judgment and greater independence in the performance of their work. Instructions are received both orally and in writing and supervision is received from Traffic Signal Technician Senior, Traffic Signal Technician Supervisor, and Manager Signals & Intelligent Traffic Systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Works in the field, under the guidance of the Traffic Signal Technician Senior, troubleshooting and restoring operations to traffic signal control devices that have underground electrical, electronic equipment or electrical wire/cable failure due to vehicular accidents, vandalism, adverse weather, or other unforeseen events.
Tests traffic signal control equipment and related devices to learn to identify defects in electric and electronic equipment.
Performs routine maintenance on traffic signal equipment and intelligent transportation system components on an ongoing basis under the guidance of the Traffic Signal Technician Senior.
Serves as a resource for subordinate personnel.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
