Job Summary

As a Laborer, you will ultimately be responsible for supporting underground utility construction activities, maintaining safe and efficient job sites, and assisting field crews with daily construction operations. You will work alongside operators and construction teams to complete projects safely and efficiently. Your customers include Congruex field operations, project teams, and utility customers, and you will make meaningful contributions through safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)

  • Attend and participate in morning and afternoon job-specific safety meetings and huddles.
  • Operate tamping equipment, inspect machines and tools, and assist with routine equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with loading and unloading jobsite materials while maintaining clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Assist with excavation activities including trenching, shoring, conduit placement, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, backfilling, and setting structures.
  • Assist with concrete forming and pouring, asphalt preparation and placement, and other underground utility construction activities.
  • Inspect, maintain, and safely use hand tools and small construction equipment.
  • Follow all company and customer safety requirements, complete required safety training, participate in random drug screenings, and report injuries or incidents promptly.
  • Assist coworkers throughout daily construction activities and ensure jobsites are cleaned and secured at the end of each shift.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Experience

  • Ability to work in a construction environment; previous construction experience is not required.
  • Reliable transportation to various jobsites.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crew members, leadership, and customers.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety procedures and a commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and ability to safely use hand tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in underground utility construction.
  • Experience operating small equipment and hand tools.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and process efficiency.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and active construction environments.
  • Ability to safely operate around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of crew members, equipment, vehicles, and surroundings to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
