This is a full-time position located at the Capitol Annex Building in Baton Rouge, LA.

This Tourism Marketing Representative position will concentrate efforts on implementing these strategies in the Domestic and International Sales Division.

The Louisiana Office of Tourism (LOT) Marketing program directs, manages, and monitors public relations, advertising, and media agencies through contracts with private sector companies specializing in different aspects of destination marketing practices. This effort also includes partnerships with professional groups such as the Louisiana Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (LACVB) and the Louisiana Tourism Association (LTA) and local Convention and Visitor Bureaus (CVBs).

One of the most critical responsibilities of the Domestic and International Sales Division is to seek creative strategies to position Louisiana as a top-of-the-mind, premier vacation destination. This is accomplished by employing a variety of strategies, including sponsoring events, conducting sales missions, attending trade and consumer shows, conducting familiarization tours, conducting educational seminars, and using tourism activations at events to increase the awareness of Louisiana as a top vacation destination, among other responsibilities.

The Louisiana Office of Tourisms vision is to market and promote the brand of Feed Your Soul, showcasing Louisiana as a travel destination, increasing revenue generated by the tourism industry, and contributing to the economic impact of tourism in all 64 parishes.

The Office of Tourism partners with tourism professionals and industry stakeholders in private and public sectors to extend and enhance their efforts to reach domestic and international consumers and travel trade.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in tourism, marketing, public relations, or administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Track travel trends and visitation numbers to identify consumer/trade events where Louisiana should be present.
  • Research potential clients attending tradeshows prior to creating the appointment schedule.
  • Manage the planning, organizing, and execution of special events, promotions, activations designed to build and sustain a top-of-mind awareness of Louisiana as a premier tourism destination.
  • Manage outgoing/return shipments of trade show booths, booth supplies, rentals, collateral materials with DCRT's distribution department and third-party vendors.
  • Manage CRM database post show/conference to provide to the Louisiana industry partners for follow-up to attract more visitors and to expand new markets into Louisiana.
  • Create evaluation and reporting tools that will be used to gauge return on investment for all aspects of sales.
  • Collaborate with national tourism associations in their international cooperatives sales efforts.
  • Communicate and network with key stakeholders to improve and enhance viability of local tourism businesses.
  • Provide general information to tourist attractions, hotels, and restaurants across the state and field inquires from stakeholders, tour operators, and travel agents in a professional manner.
  • Manage marketing projects and co-op campaigns in conjunction with the Communications Department to ensure Louisiana's travel industry partners are aware of partnership opportunities with LOT.
  • Report to the Tourism Marketing Director all activity progress, results, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Manage and execute international consumer and travel sales missions and international trade and media familiarization tours.
  • Plan event/project logistics by securing necessary resources, location, audio-visual, security, technical needs, etc. Communicate with Tourism Director and event/project's point person regularly on progress.
  • Engage with the state's external agencies and partners, such as CVBs, local attractions, and trade organizations, to plan familiarization tours for clients traveling individually or in groups as directed by the Tourism Director.
  • Create and maintain marketing collateral such as brochures, visual aids for presentations, training/webinars, tradeshows, and sales missions.
  • Manage budgets and generate tracking reports.
  • Independently negotiate and execute necessary contracts/Cooperative Endeavor Agreements for service providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position-Specific Details:

  • Location: This position is located at the Capital Annex Building in Baton Rouge, LA. Travel may be required to other locations across and out of the state.
  • Appointment Type: This position may be filled as probational, promotion, or detail to special duty. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
  • Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Tourism Marketing Representative 1, 2, or 3. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.   • Work Schedule: This is a full-time position that reports in-office for an average of 40 hours/week. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime. This position may be required to travel.
