Description

Are you the craftsperson who can make a press line sing?

Do you read a die blueprint like a favorite novel? Can you step to a mill, lathe, or grinder and bring worn tooling back to life? Do in-press fixes and tryouts energize you? If you’re nodding yes, you might be the Tooling Die Specialist our Marion stamping operations need.

The challenge

  • Build, repair, and remodel production dies using multiple materials and welding processes
  • Analyze blueprints, plan the work, and execute precision machining and hand fitting
  • Perform in-press repair and die tryout to validate capability and quality
  • Verify dimensions using calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and related instruments
  • Move heavy tooling safely by hi-lo and overhead crane
  • Document your work clearly; log data using basic computer skills
  • Champion safety—comply with OSHA and GM procedures every time

What it takes

  • Department of Labor Completion of Apprenticeship (Die Maker) or 6+ years documented Die Maker experience
  • 18+ years old and available for day/afternoon/night shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays with short notice
  • If you’re a current GM employee covered by a CBA, contact local HR/LR for placement guidance

Rewards and schedule

Depending on experience, you may join as a Journeyperson in Training at $37.88–$44.19/hr or as a Journeyperson at $45.09/hr. Status and pay are determined by credentials and interview results. GM UAW hourly roles feature competitive compensation, strong benefits, and eligibility for an annual incentive when qualified. Relocation and travel expenses are the applicant’s responsibility.

Physical realities of the work

  • Immediate response to alarms and safety instructions
  • Prolonged standing and maneuvering through a busy plant
  • PPE worn throughout assigned tasks
  • Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
  • Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. depending on area; occasional sitting
  • Operate mobile equipment when needed
