Tool Maker Assistant

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $20

Job Summary:

The Tool Maker Assistant supports Tool Makers in the design, fabrication, and maintenance of tools, dies, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. This position offers hands-on experience and training in tool making, allowing individuals to develop their skills in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Must have CNC Machining experience, familiarity with CAD/CAM systems, and computer proficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Tool Makers in the setup and operation of machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment.
  • Help in the fabrication, assembly, and modification of tools, dies, and fixtures based on specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in the inspection and testing of tools and dies to ensure they meet quality and design standards.
  • Document work processes, maintain records of tooling, and assist in inventory management.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts by identifying and reporting issues related to tooling and machinery.
  • Follow blueprints, sketches, and CAD designs to assist in the creation of tooling components.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or training in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic mechanical skills and a willingness to learn about tool making processes.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, as well as measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers, is essential
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow instructions from experienced Tool Makers.

  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of machining and fabrication processes; eagerness to learn about CNC operation and programming.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on precision and quality in work output.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assist in identifying and resolving tooling-related issues.
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding and commitment to safety practices in a manufacturing setting.
  • Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills for effective teamwork.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry materials and tools (up to 50 pounds).
  • Capability to stand for extended periods and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and noise.

Training and Development:

  • On-the-job training will be provided to enhance skills and knowledge in tool making.
  • Opportunities for advancement may be available as skills and experience grow.
