    Description

    Corporate Settlement Solutions is a dynamic, forward-thinking provider of real estate settlement services to lenders, realtors, buyers, and sellers across multiple states. We are looking for a remote Title Examiner in Michigan to join our team. This individual will primarily be focused on servicing Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Kalkaska, and other surrounding counties, examining records on-line and physically at the county in order to produce a title commitment to verify ownership and identify requirements to insure title. This position will work in a collaborative, team-based environment and will have the opportunity for future growth within the title and closing team.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Conduct title examinations throughout Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Kalkaska, and other surrounding counties in the State of Michigan including 100-year, 40-year and current owner searches for residential, commercial and agricultural properties.
    • Read search requests, ascertain types of title evidence required, and obtain descriptions of properties and names of involved parties.
    • Help other team members to ensure every order is completed quickly and accurately for every customer.
    • Prepare a Title Commitment describing any title encumbrances encountered during searching activities, and outline actions needed to clear title.
    • Confer with realtors, lending institution personnel, buyers, sellers, contractors, surveyors, and courthouse personnel in order to exchange title-related information or to resolve problems.
    • Accurately calculate title insurance premiums, rates, or quotes
    • Enter into record-keeping systems appropriate data needed to create new title records or update existing ones.
    • Copy or summarize recorded documents, such as mortgages, trust deeds, and contracts that affect property titles.
    • Effectively use computer systems to log notes, records, and move the order process forward.
    • Continuously improve your knowledge through continuing education and inferred learning on the job through experience

    Education and Experience Required: 
    • 2+ years of examination experience in the State of Michigan
    • 2+ years of experience with MS Office suite

    Education and Experience Preferred: 
    • 3+ years of examination experience in the State of Michigan
    • 5+ years of experience with MS Office suite

    Additional Requirements, Skills and Abilities:
    • Must have a valid driver’s license.
    • Must have knowledge of basic underwriting guidelines and mapping of legal descriptions.
    • Must have knowledge of title commitment content.
    • Must possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team structure.
    • Must communicate professionally and clearly in written and verbal format.
    • Must have strong attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
    • Must have analytical thinking and the ability to use logic to address issues or problems.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to travel from time to time and independently navigate all activities required for traveling.
