    JOB TITLE: TIER II TECHNICIAN (DoDT)

    GROUP: Teamsters IV LEVEL: 13 FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt WORKDAYS PER FISCAL YEAR: 246 HOLIDAYS: 14 SUMMARY: The position of Tier II Technician Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs or updates computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals at client location or within the Department's offices. Installs and troubleshoots network hardware and peripherals, where assigned. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces software systems according to end user requirements. Primarily supports administrative operations of the District by working directly with the Building Contact, Tier I Technicians, Systems grou p and networking vendors to achieve the desired result.

    This position contributes to the fulfillment of the District's Technology Services Goals; the mission of the Department of Digital Transformation is to lead the technology initiatives of HPS while providing a high quality, dynamic technology environment. This position supports the mission of the District and the Academics and Operations Divisions by providing unparalleled service, comprehensive communications capabilities, and efficient use of resources , which empowers students and staff to achieve and perf orm at their maximum potential.

    1. Major Programmatic Responsibilities (Oversight, Leadership, Policy-level Decision-Making): None. Major Operational Responsibilities (Day-to-Day tasks, Planning, Judgment): Oversees organizational information related to other Tier II Technicians and provides consistent and appropriate feedback to staff when instructed by management or in lieu of management when unavailable. Diagnose workstation, printer, copier, and other related equipment problems. Optimize workstations for best performance. Troubleshoot, support and perform maintenance on workstations and network apparatus. Work closely with Help Desk Generalists to resolve issues at remote locations. Coordinate work with building staff to meet specifications for computer systems and room use. Install network equipment and configure, where appropriate. Supervises vendor walk-throughs and installations of network infrastructure. Works closely with Systems group to maintain network and workstation health. Maintain and operate service repairs in a timely manner, including day-to-day user requests, equipment performance issues, and the operation of equipment at the workstation level. Maintain and seek new vendors that will establish high quality service and support of products and services to HSD Receive, tag, and track incoming technology equipment in appropriate management systems (i.e. Business Plus and IIQ)

    1. Legal & Safety Compliance (Federal, State, District, Collective Bargaining Agreements): Supports the District's policies for appropriate web and e-mail use as defined by CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) and COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) compliance regulations. Supports the secure use of district electronic records for FERPA (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act) compliance. Follows vendor specifications for equipment parts replacement. Periodically review vendor recall notices for impact on District technology and users.
    2. Supervision None
    3. Training: Creates and updates troubleshooting documentation and installation/support procedures; Ensures documentation is current and meets quality standards. Participates in and conducts technical training programs; Determine training objectives and create training programs including course outlines, handouts, and laboratory exercises. Trains school personnel in the use of application software and related hardware. Trains IT staff on new procedures and functions. Works closely with Tier I, II and Helpdesk personnel to mentor and assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing problems.
    4. Communications/District Representation: Provides regular and/or daily correspondence to management, peers, Tier I, II and Helpdesk personnel regarding hardware status, updates, security threats, and operation requirements. Establishes and maintains relationships with District staff related to job responsibility. Improves staff and community communication in the area of technology. Communicates status of systems to directors and tech contacts, as appropriate. Represents district at various state-wide meetings and participates in state-wide decisions.     1. Budgetary Authority: None.
    2. Technology: Intentionally selects and uses the communication tool that is most appropriate for the task; knows when not to use a specific technology. Uses core software to address new tasks; performs routine functions using specialized software specific to a department or unit. Accesses and/or enters ad hoc information; produces requested reports. Models the use of district technology resources in a safe, ethical, and legal manner. Fluent knowledge and extensive user of Microsoft and Internet technologies. Early adopter of new technologies.
    3. Support: Supports implementation of enterprise services as assigned by the Director of Technology Services. Assists District representatives in the research and implementation of enterprise software. Department of Digital Transformation staff in troubleshooting enterprise systems.
    4. Professional Development: Attends training, conferences, vendor presentations, district meetings and other activities as needed for professional development.
    5. Other Duties: Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Technology Services.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent A+, MCSA/MCSE, Linux, UNIX, Microsoft, Intel, Macintosh, and peripheral training, or similar Three years on the job experience setting up and diagnosing problems related to hardware and software uses One year experience maintaining an enterprise operation consisting of multi-site integrated technologies One year experience supporting enterprise environments and solutions

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Experience using and applying Internet technologies Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures Familiarity with server administration and networking concepts

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field Prior experience working within a K-12 service and support organization Project management experience Licenses/Certification
