Job Description:
Our client designs and builds skid-mounted process systems spanning gas handling, liquid processing, phase change, and thermal management. They operate in the natural gas distribution sector, using propane as a direct substitute for natural gas in standby and peaking applications, and are actively developing hydrogen production systems via water electrolysis for utilities and industrial clients pursuing decarbonization. They are adding a Thermodynamics Engineer to work alongside their senior technical lead. The right candidate is equally comfortable in the office and on the shop floor, and has a genuine interest in energy transition and emerging fuel technologies.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent; strong candidates from adjacent disciplines will be considered
  • 5+ years of applied engineering experience or advanced degree with demonstrated technical depth
  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics: heat transfer, phase change, and gas/liquid process systems
  • Proficiency with fluid flow analysis, both single-phase and two-phase systems
  • Working knowledge of heat exchangers, pump systems, and packaged skid design
  • Ability to take a design from concept through to physical fabrication
  • Mechanical intuition across valves, compressors, instrumentation, and piping
  • AutoCAD proficiency and fluency with MS Office tools
  • Able to manage multiple projects with limited supervision
Preferred / Desired Experience
  • Experience with RefProp or comparable NIST-based thermodynamic property tools
  • Background in industrial refrigeration, large compressor packages, or chemical plant systems
  • Familiarity with propane distribution, standby/peaking systems, or natural gas utility infrastructure
  • Exposure to hydrogen production, electrolysis systems, or hydrogen fuel handling
  • Interest in decarbonization technologies, renewable energy, or emerging fuel pathways
  • Field experience: commissioning, construction oversight, or site troubleshooting
  • Comfort working from P&ID and mechanical/electrical drawing packages
  • Knowledge of piping materials, compatibility, and corrosion mitigation
  • PLC familiarity (Allen Bradley or Siemens), I/O configuration, ladder or structured-text logic
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.8, B31.12, NFPA 2/58/59/70/72
  • Vendor relationships in specialty gas, propane, water treatment, or hydrogen equipment
