Therapeutic Recreation Program Facility Assistant FRS - Professional

Performs a wide variety of responsible work involving facility and program supervision for persons with and without disabilities, including instructing, implementing, supervising, monitoring, and evaluating various games, sports, programs, activities, facilities, and events, and processing registrations, permits, and fees. Assists with facilitation of programs/services. Interacts with program participants and volunteers with and without disabilities, inclusive of youth, teens, adults, and seniors. Work is performed under the general guidance of the supervisor and is reviewed through reports, on-site visits, and results obtained.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:

• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of one (1) year of college-level coursework (30-semester/45-quarter hours) in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Education, Health and Physical Education, or closely related field AND one (1) year of experience working with people with disabilities,

OR

• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of experience working with people with disabilities in a recreational or physical education program.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

The selected candidate for this position MUST:

• Submit copies of current First Aid/American Red Cross (ARD) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at time of application OR obtain within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience setting goals and objectives in a therapeutic recreational setting,
• Experience assisting with the supervision of participants with disabilities during various field trips, programs, and activities,
• Experience transporting participants with disabilities to and from programs,
• Valid FL Class B/C CDL with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsements, and
• Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
