    Duties and Responsibilities

    (* Essential Functions)

    • *Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Services, serves as the primary point of contact for all aspects of Leeward Theatre events, including the administrative process for managing on-site operations.
    • *Recruits, trains, and supervises theatre staff. High-level supervision over the recruitment and training of students and volunteers.
    • *Assesses theatre mission, goals, and objectives to evaluate and improve operations per the recurring planning process
    • *Oversees Theatre events, including but not limited to all logistics for facilities, security, custodial services, technology, lighting, sound, and internal and external vendors.
    • *Prepares budgets, manages multiple funding sources, and handles all fiscal Theatre operations, complying with fiscal requirements on all aspects of the theatre's operations on a timely basis. Analyzes past performances to determine feasibility for future scheduling.
    • Negotiates and administers contracts with local, national, and international performing artists and community groups, schools, and local organizations who present at or rent the Theatre.
    • Serves as the primary campus liaison on behalf of the Theatre to build strong partnerships and deliver quality service across state agencies, community organizations, industry partners, and the public.
    • Serves as the College representative in the statewide Performing Arts Presenters of Hawaii consortium. Represents the college as a member in organizations, such as the Hawaii State Theatre Council, United States Institute for Theatre Technology, Western Arts Alliance, and American Performing Arts Presenters, etc.
    • *Collaborates with Auxiliary Services on general Theatre facility support (e.g., standard building maintenance, elevator maintenance, HVAC, and routine facility repairs)
    • *Directs and holds primary responsibility for the safety, repair, and contracting of services specific to the specialized needs of the Theatre venue (e.g., theatrical lighting, stage rigging, life-safety systems, specialized AV systems, and performance equipment), ensuring sound operational risk management.
    • *Maintains flexible working hours including nights and weekends based on event bookings.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Theatre, Arts Administration, Business Administration, Business Management, Facilities Management, Event Management, Operations Management, Hospitality, Public Relations, Communication, or related field, and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for arts administration or business/operations management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
    • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of theater and/or event operations as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies
    • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with theater and/or event operations.
    • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software, and use digital technology, software/apps, and automation platforms to simplify routine tasks.
    • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
    • Demonstrated experience overseeing venue operations, facility logistics and maintenance
    • Demonstrated experience coordinating repairs and contractor services for specialized theatre equipment.
    • Exceptional communication skills with a history of driving collaborative partnership projects and providing client-centered venue support to internal and external clients.
    • Considerable experience with contract negotiations.
    • Demonstrated experience preparing budgets and preparing business plans.

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Experience in various sound, mixing, and lighting applications.
    • Demonstrated experience with University of Hawaii policy rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with theater management and public relations.
    • Demonstrated experience of successful venue management at an academic institution with ability to coordinate complex calendars across multiple stakeholders and user groups.
    • Demonstrated ability to use AI to automate workflows.
    • Demonstrated ability to use Google workspace collaboration software.
    • Demonstrated ability to use event software, analyze data and evaluate trends to maximize revenue sales.
    • Demonstrated ability to use venue scheduling software for booking and workflow.
