Primary Responsibilities
Artistic Direction
Vision & Program Growth: Lead the overall vision and continued development of the NBW theater program, aligning all initiatives with school values and educational goals.
Production Planning: Conceptualize and plan high-quality theatrical productions, including script selection, auditions, set/costume/lighting design concepts, and rehearsal oversight.
Student Inspiration: Provide artistic direction that inspires students to achieve their fullest potential in acting, singing, dancing, and technical theater.
Strategic Collaboration: Consult with the School District of New Berlin Leadership regarding major decisions on the ongoing development of the program's aesthetic values and activities.
Collaboration & Communication
Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with faculty, PAC management, technical staff, booster clubs, and community members to seamlessly execute all production aspects.
Transparent Communication: Maintain open channels with students, parents, and stakeholders regarding rehearsal schedules, upcoming performances, and events.
Booster Partnership: Foster strong relationships with booster club stakeholders to secure resources and support for the long-term success of the MS/HS program.
Mentorship & Support
Student Guidance: Mentor students to develop their creative talents, self-confidence, personal growth, and understanding of professional theater norms.
Inclusive Environment: Cultivate a respectful, diverse, and inclusive environment that welcomes and accommodates all backgrounds, including students with special needs.
Student Leadership Advisor: Act as the Advisor for the NBW Players student organization, collaborating with the student executive board on activities like spirit weeks, Ovation Awards, and the International Thespian Society.
Logistical Oversight
Scheduling: Create, maintain, and manage comprehensive rehearsal, production, and strike schedules in coordination with the PAC and Music department.
Budget Management: Over see the theater budget, responsibly allocating funds for productions, costumes, props, and technical equipment.
Personnel & Safety Supervision: Coordinate and supervise production staff, volunteers, choreographers, accompanists, and technical support personnel while enforcing strict safety standards during all phases of production.
Performance Evaluation
Constructive Feedback: Assess student performances to offer growth opportunities and constructive critique.
Program Assessment: Evaluate the success of productions to identify areas for enhancement and implement strategic improvements.
Industry Liaison: Act as the primary liaison between the theater department and the Wisconsin Jerry Awards.
